Our client has designed 3 staged agitator impellers used for up-pumping of multiple liquids present inside the baffled mixing tank. The aim of this project was to analyse whether for given operating conditions the agitator was capable of evenly mixing different liquids inside the tank.
Problem definition 
The objective of this project is to perform a CFD analysis to determine following performance parameters as given below:• To determine the flow behaviour of multiple liquids inside the mixing tank • To determine the phase distribution of different liquids due to agitation• To determine Residence Time Distribution (RTD) to decide minimum time required for complete homogeneity of all liquids due to            agitation
Solution 
• Within 9 seconds of simulation, all heavy liquids were pumped upwards by bottom impellers• After 9 seconds, denser liquids were not settled back to the bottom of the mixing tank• A complete mixing pattern was developed inside a mixing tank within 9 seconds• The RTD study suggested that the time needed for complete homogeneity of all the liquids was approx. 27 seconds
