Due to some technical reasons at a client site, the chiller performance gets distorted. Hence, it starts delivering the warm water to its utilities at 13???C instead of 7???C. This warm water (13???C) starts entering a buffer tank (one of its utilities), resulting into increase in temperature of buffer tank. During normal working conditions, the buffer tank fluid is maintained at 7???C temperature.
Problem definition 
The objective of this project is to perform a CFD analysis to determine following performance parameters as given below:•To perform a transient flow + thermal analysis of a buffer tank in case of a power failure condition•To determine the time needed for a water to reach a temperature of 11???C from initial of 7???C at a buffer tank outlet
Solution 
Unsteady state CFD simulation was carried out to estimate the flow & thermal behaviour inside the Buffer Tank•The simulation was performed for 740 sec timespan i.e., for 12 minutes 20 seconds timespan•The temperature of the tank outlet increases to 11.92???C after this timespan•Tank outlet temperature achieves 11???C after 463 sec i.e., after 7 minutes 44 seconds•The volume averaged temperature of tank fluid also achieves the temperature of 11.95???C after this timespan

Solution 
• The pump generated a static head of 12.46 m at its outlet• In order to generate this head, the pump required 13.52 kW of power• Given pump design underperformed in terms of the static head generated
